The Natural Reserve of S??o Jacinto Dunes place himself at the end of the peninsula that runs from Ovar to Sao Jacinto. To the west it is the Atlantic Ocean and to the east the Ria de Aveiro. Created in 1979, this protected area has about 700 hectares and is integrated in the Special Protection Area of ????the Ria de Aveiro, important area for the protection of seabirds. With a view to the protection of the dunes and their natural habitats, the Reserve is divided into three distinct but complementary areas: mobile and fixed dunes, of great importance due to its good state of preservation; a forest composed mainly of pine brave; and pools of fresh water, of which the largest and best known for Patería, is the privileged place of passage for migratory waterfowl. In terms of fauna are the Chapim-real, the Chapim-saithe, Chapim-to-aft, the gaivota-ar-gêntea the guincho the negrinha and the duck-marine, among others. In the flora dominated poplars, willows, sedges, lichens, estorno and pine-bravo fixed reservation lands. In the already mentioned Pateira Sao Jacinto we can see several examples of wintering duck-anatídeos as the real, as well as herons heron-white.
