Re-enactment of a Kamikaze ceremony at Chofu, Japan, for the United States Strategic Bombing Survey Motion Picture Project 'Strategic Attack'. The Kamikaze pilots are receiving a ceremonial cup of sake before a mission. Kamikaze attacks were suicide attacks carried out by Japanese pilots flying specially adapted aircraft carrying a combination of explosives, bombs, torpedoes and full fuel tanks. They were designed to destroy warships more effectively than was possible with conventional attacks. Photographed in November 1945.
