Sultan Hasan mosque, The mosque was an enormous construction of a four iwan (roofed or vaulted hall open at one end). It is reported that with the building of this mosque the sultan desired to surpass the great iwan of the Sassanian palace at Ctesiphon in Iraq. Egypt. Islamic. Early Mamluk period, 1356-1359 AD.
