Royal train veteran Mr John James Richardson, outdoor locomotive superindent of the London Brighton and South Coast Railway retired after serving the company for 48 years. The Royal trains of which he had charge were those conveying the late King, Edward (then Prince of Wales) to London on his succession- Queen Victoria's Funeral Train from Portsmouth to London and the train king George and Queen Mary (then Duke and Duchess of York) after their world tour.
