Nankeen kestrel (Falco cenchroides) perched on a branch with an insect prey in its talons. This species is common throughout Australia, primarily inhabiting grasslands and farmlands. Nankeen Kestrels hunt a diverse range of prey, including small mammals, particularly mice, as well as small birds, lizards, and insects. They may consume smaller items while flying, but they typically return to a perch to eat larger prey. The upper parts of the Nankeen kestrel are mostly copper-coloured, adorned with some dark streaks, and its wings are tipped with black.
