White-backed vultures (Gyps africanus) feeding on a wildebeest (Connochaetes sp.) carcass. The bird gets its name from the white feathers on its back, which contrasts with its brown head, black beak and wings that are also a mix of white and brown. In October 2015, the white-backed vulture was classified as Illustrationcritically endangeredIllustration on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. Photographed in the Ndutu Conservation Area, Serengeti, Tanzania.
