The total solar eclipse of 11 July 1991. A total solar eclipse is the occultation of the Sun by the Moon. In this image, a few pinkish flares may be seen in the bright corona (bottom and centre right of disc). The bright patch of light at the top is a small part of the solar disc visible at the edge of the Moon. This effect is known as the 'Diamond Ring'. This eclipse was visible in Hawaii and Baja California in Mexico. Maximum duration of totality was 6 minutes 54 seconds. In many locations, the view of the eclipse was spoilt by cloud cover.
