Common scooter ducks (Melanitta nigra). This duck breeds in northern Europe and Asia. It migrates further south to temperate regions, on the coasts of Europe and Morocco. This is a diving duck that feeds on crustaceans, molluscs, aquatic insects and small fish. Photographed in Sussex, UK, in January.
