The Ogiek people are hunter-gatherers who live in the Mau forest. They gather honey for consumption and for sale from beehives they make from hollowed-out logs. Here, an old man in a forest clearing ties cedar bark round the outside of a new hive. A person may own as many as three hundred hives hung in specific family-owned trees over a wide area, harvesting them at eight-month intervals.
