An old Omani man walks beneath the imposing watchtower of Al Hazm Castle. The magnificent 18th century military stronghold makes full use of traditonal Omani defensive features boasting a massive wooden entry door, secret escape tunnels, dungeons, cannon towers, gun ports and a machicolation for pouring boiling date syrup on attackers.
