Caribbean hermit crab. Caribbean hermit crabs (Coenobita clypeatus) live on land but have gills rather than lungs. The gills are kept moist by humidity and by water carried in the shell. Like other hermit crabs they do not have their own shell but live inside a salvaged empty seashell. Photographed on Bonaire island, Antilles, West Indies.
