Huias. Artwork of a male and a female of the extinct New Zealand bird the Huia (Heteralocha acutirostris). Males had short straight bills, while females had long curved bills. Huias fed on beetle larvae as well as other insects and berries. They became extinct in the early 20th century due to habitat loss, the introduction of mammalian predators and overhunting.
