Solar thermal heating system. The three pumps at upper centre (with red and blue dials) are examples of a modern heating and solar thermal system. These systems use pumps to circulate fluids such as glycol and water around pipes. The heat is provided by sunlight to which part of the system is exposed. This thermal heating system was designed and manufactured by the German company PAW, founded in 1964. Control panels are on the wall at left, and insulated pipes are seen running to and from the pumps.
