Egyptian god of the dead. Engraving depicting a 17th century interpretation of the Egyptian god Anubis. Described as having the head of a dog, Anubis was the God of the Dead and was associated with embalming. Around the figure are other drawings of objects found in Egyptian hieroglyphs and symbols. This illustration comes from Obeliscus pamphilius by Athanasius Kircher, printed at Rome in 1650.
