Macrophotograph of Phelum pratense, Timothy grass, or cat's-tail, seen here in flower during the summer months (June to August). Timothy is common througout Britain on pastures, roadsides & wasteground. It forms an important fodder crop & is planted for both hay & grazing. In the summer it produces copious quantities of pollen, which is dispersed by the wind. Timothy is one of the grass pollens most responsible for hayfever (Allergic rhinitis & pollenosis), an allergy in which the mucous membranes of the nose, eyes & throat swell, & become inflammed. Mag: X2 (at 35mm size).
