Facial reconstruction. Image 1 of 7. Remains of a human skull reassembled with wax. Forensic scientists rebuild skulls to provide a base for facial reconstruction when there is no other means of identifying skeletal remains. The aim is to provide a likeness of the victim, which might allow them to be identified from missing persons records for example. A mould will be taken of this skull to produce a plaster cast over which the facial muscles will be reconstructed with modelling clay. See images H200/279 to H200/285 for a sequence of forensic facial reconstruction.
