Surgical tools such as this are used with an endoscope (a tube for looking inside the body) to remove small obstructions in the body. In the case of these microforceps, removing swallowed blockages and foreign bodies in the lungs are common tasks. Endoscopy (often called keyhole surgery") uses small tools which are introduced into the body through a small hole, and operated from outside the body.
