Adipose connective tissue. False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a fat-storing cell (brown), also known as adipocyte, which builds up the adipose connective tissue. Almost the entire volume of an adipocyte is occupied by a single lipid droplet mostly formed by triglycerides. Fat not used in metabolic processes is channeled towards these cells through small capillaries and a few of them are visible behind the adipocyte as pink tubules. Adipocytes are supported by a fine network of reticular fibres which are closely applied to their surface. Magnification: x460 at 35mm size. x1450 at 5x4 x1070 at 6x7cm."
