Driving simulator. This Volkswagen Beetle has been adapted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Agelab researchers into a driving simulator. The car is driven in virtual surroundings as shown on the large exterior display. Researchers are able to test elderly drivers reactions to emergency situations and information overload. The car is fitted with a portable computer (lower centre), a heads-up- display (HUD), and an eye-motion tracker. Drivers over the age of 75 are the group most likely, after teenagers, to suffer a fatal car accident.
