MODEL RELEASED. Pulp sampling in paper mill. A worker checks a sample of bleached wood pulp from a pulp-drying roller in a paper mill. The sample will be checked to make sure the pulp- making process is working properly. Paper is made from the cellulose fibres in wood. Raw wood is chipped and fed into huge digesters with water, where chemicals, heat and high pressure make the fibres separate. The resulting pulp is then bleached to make it white and poured out into flat sheets to let water drain away. The sheets are pressed & dried to make the paper, which may also be coated with clay or chalk to make it smoother.
