False colour radio map of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) at 2.1 cm wavelength, made with the Parkes 64 metre radio telescope in Australia. The LMC is a small, irregular galaxy, close to our own, which lies near the south celestial pole and so is only visible from the southern hemisphere. Most of the brighter patches seen on this map show thermal emission from HII regions, clouds of ionized hydrogen, within the Large Magellanic Cloud. Observers: R.F. Haynes, U. Klein, R. Wielebinski & J. D. Murray. Publication ref: accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics, Main Journal, probably in early 1986.
