Hornblende-biotite granite. Geological specimen collected during Scott's British Antarctic Expedition 1910-1913 (also known as the Terra Nova expedition). Granite is a type of igneous rock often with a coarser texture. This example, from McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, contains the minerals hornblende and biotite.
