Limestone platform. Limestone forms in blocks, with level, smooth coastal platforms cut by wave action. The waves from the sea caused beach shingle to act as an abrading agent on the limestone. This is the edge of the platform, with blocks falling away (left). Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed from calcium minerals such as calcium carbonate. Photographed in Kilve, West Somerset, UK.
