Spectroscopy of Dead Sea Scrolls. Image showing one of the Dead Sea Scrolls being analysed using Raman spectroscopy. The dead sea scrolls were found in caves between 1947 and 1979 on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea. They include some of the earliest surviving Biblical documents. Raman spectroscopy uses the scattering of light from a sample to identify molecules within it.
