A real Mercury Redstone rocket on display outside the Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas, one of America's leading space museums. This type of rocket was used to launch America's first astronauts in the early 1960s. A one-man Mercury capsule can be seen on top of the rocket; the red structure is an escape rocket designed to pull the capsule clear in a launch emergency.
