A strong, male Alpine ibex or stein bock (Capra ibex) is posing on the south slope of the Altmann, a prominent mountain in the Santis area of north-eastern Switzerland. Stein bock are, after their re-introduction to Switzerland over a century ago, protected and only rarely culled. Therefore this one tolerates the photographer who is only a few metres away.
