Picture by Roger Bamber : 28 June 2009. The hot weather this week has made wheat fields at Saddlescombe Farm in Sussex blossom into a dazzling mass of poppies, part of the biggest mass flowering of poppies on the South Downs in many years. Charlie Cain, National Trust Warden for the Devil's Dyke downland area where the poppies are flowering, inspects the crop. He always wears traditional Sussex shepherd's clothes for work, hence the Victorian bowler hat, weskit and crook.
