Les Halles in the morning when the central food market was closed. In rue Baltard, Pavilions 7 and 8 are separated by the entrance to the long covered through road which links six pavilions - 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. The view continues down the length of rue de la Cossonnerie to buildings in the distance in Boulevard de Sebastopol. Traffic regulations meant that the circulation of large goods vehicles was prohibited at the weekend. As vegetables had to be sold a few hours after being picked, there is no market and the area has been well swept and cleaned up and there is no activity to disturb the peace and calm early on a Sunday morning. A Mercedes has just driven through the covered road. Rue Baltard, Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
