The Mayor of Guildford ( Alderman William Harvey ) took the first plunge at the opening of Guilford ' s new ?3 , 000 bathing pool in Stoke Park . He performed the ceremony wearing his robes over a swimming costume . When his head reappeared on the surface of the water members of the Corporation and the general public made a community splash .
