Chinese soldiers behind the street barricade from which they fought a Japanese naval landing party, Shanghai. The barricade was rapidly thrown together with furniture and woodwork from buildings. The Chinese quarter of Shanghai has been totally ruined by the continuous air and artillery bombardment launched by the Japanese forces. Countless numbers of people have lost their lives and many more have lost their homes and their belongings. Despite the ferocity of the Japanese the Chinese are still fighting back strongly and continue to hold at the Japanese advance. 13 September 1937.
