WALLACE BEERY AS "PANCHO VILLA" (MGM) Mexican bandit and guerilla general, Pancho Villa was born at Rio-Grande, Mexico, on October 4th, 1877. In the revolution of 1910, he joined forces with Madero, but during the campaign was captured and later escaped into Texas. Returning in 1914 after the assassination of Madero, Villa entered Mexico City and for a time was virtual dictator of the country. Wallace Beery's performance as the Mexican bandit in Viva Villa was described by the critics as "unforgettable", for it was a part eminently suited to his inimitable acting. It is interesting to recall that Wallace Beery made his first appearance on the screen in 1914 as a comedian. His latest films include Stablemates, Sergeant Madden and Stand Up and Fight.
