Huge five pointed Soviet stars have been fitted to the towers of the Kremlin in Moscow in place of the Tsarist eagles, last relics of the old regime, which have just been removed. The stars measure 15 feet across and weigh two tons. They bear the hammer and sickle emblem set with semi-precious stones from the Urals. Eight thousand gems were used on each. Photo shows the huge new Soviet star surmounting the Nikolsky Tower of the Kremlin. Left of the star are the buildings of the Moscow State University and right are the new offices of the Committee of the Council of Labour and Defence and the Mossoviet Hotel. Right foreground is the Historical Museum in Red Square. November 7th 1935
