Royal Tour of New Zealand (Wellington & Hutt Valley) Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, on their 12-day tour of New Zealand, spent 11th and 12th February in Wellington and the Hutt Valley on a busy round of engagements of which the features were a ceremonial opening of Parliament and an Investiture. Their programme also included a public welcome, a children's sports rally, displays of sheep-shearing and wool products, a night trotting meeting and inspection of a "new town" development project. Other occasions were luncheon and a cocktail party on Britannia, luncheon and dinner at Government House, a Diplomatic Corps presentation and a reception for MPs and their wives.
