A couple who were said to have practiced putting salt on the fire to combat the witchcraft which they believed was being exercised against their 4 1/2 year old son Edward, appeared before a special court at Trowbridge, Wiltshire. Ernest Samuel Gale, 44, a textile worker and his wife, violinist Maria Gale, denied neglecting their child in a manner likely to cause injury to his health.
