London wins Fens skating trophy. Henry Howes, of Hounslow, a member of the Aldwych Skating Club, today (Wednesday) , one the Amateur Skating Championship of Great Britain held on Bury Fen, near St Ives, Hunts. With the championship goes the King Edward VII Cup. The winners time was 4;54 seconds for one and a half miles. It was the first time that there was serious opposition to the traditional supremacy of the Fenman by men from London Skating rinks. The championship was last contested 10 years ago. Photo shows, the Cop on the Corner. One of the six finalist at Bury Fen today (Wednesday) round the bend where PC Arthur Moreton, of St Ives, also on skates, controls the course. The skater is B Slater, a Lincolnshire champion. 19 February 1947
