In 1940 at the time of Dunkirk, the Admiralty Court to every available craft to withdraw our men from the beaches of Dunkirk. Amongst these boats was a new lifeboat, and when the call was made this boat was actually on the stocks receiving her first coat of paint. With paint still works she was launched and manned by crew of naval men. The boat was handed over yesterday, Saturday, slit civilian crew at Cadgwith, near the Lizard in West Cornwall. The cost of the boat was born by subscriptions made by a girl guides from all parts of England, and has been named "Guide of Dunkirk". 15 June 1947
