Holiday Express crashes, four die. At least four passengers lost their lives this morning (Monday), when the 8.30 AM London to Liverpool express left the rails while travelling at high speed at Grendon, Warwickshire, between Nuneaton and Tamworth. The engine 14 coaches of the 16 coach train were derailed, and their wreckage blocked all four lines of the tracks that traffic had to be diverted. Between 20 and 30 other passengers were hurt, and doctors and ambulancemen from all of the surrounding towns worked feverishly to extricate them from the wreckage. The train was taking a left-hand bend through a cutting when it left the rails, and nine of the derailed coaches toppled over on their sides.
