Heat-regulating behavior of a buck red kangaroo (Megaleia rufa) as it licks its limbs wet to cool off on a hot outback summer evening in Thrushton National Park, southwest Queensland. Roos are crepuscular, most active at dawn and dusk. The population, estimated between 6 and 10.5 million, fluctuates with rainfall.
