Tunisia. This 3rd-century monument is the largest colisseum in North Africa and the fourth largest built by the Roman Empire. The wealth of El Jem (Thysdrus) stemmed from its busy olive oil trade. When Rome reintroduced a stiff tax on this commodity, the city rebelled and was eventually destroyed.
