Model for the first pendulum clock by Christiaan Huygens (April 14, 1629 - July 8, 1695), a prominent Dutch scientist. (Galileo conceived of a pendulum clock years earlier, but never lived to build one.) From 1656, the time of its invention, until the 1930s, the pendulum clock was the most accurate means of keeping time.
