Newell's oscillating sofa, table and couch for vessels, 1870. The invention provides the rooms of vessels with couches, sofas and other furniture, suspended to always maintain a horizontal position, no matter how much the vessel may pitch or roll. The couches are preferably made in a circular form, and suspended on oscillating hangers, the hangers being adjusted on the principle in which the mariner's compass is suspended to keep it constantly level. The hanging couch may contain a center table, and other small articles of furniture. Seasickness is a form of motion sickness characterized by a feeling of nausea and, in extreme cases, vertigo, experienced after spending time on a craft on water
