"A View of the Indians of Tierra del Fuego in their hut," by Francesco Bartolozzi, after Giovanni Battista Cipriani. Engraved plate depicting a group of Fuegians, the indigenous peoples of Tierra del Fuego at the southern tip of South America. Fuegians were one of three tribes leading a hunter-gatherer existence. Settlement of their lands by Europeans introduced diseases such as measles that decimated their populations. This is from "A Collection of Drawings made in the Countries visited by Captain Cook in his First Voyage.1768-1771."
