Bubble chamber event. Invisible gamma ray photons produce pairs of electrons and positrons in a bubble chamber at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. One of the most important results of modern physics, the direct conversion of energy into matter. A bubble chamber is a vessel filled with a superheated transparent liquid (most often liquid hydrogen) used to detect electrically charged particles moving through it.
