Putti plan war maneuvers on maps with the help of geometrical diagrams; representing geometry and military science. Geometry is a branch of mathematics concerned with questions of shape, size, relative position of figures, and the properties of space. Geometry arose independently in a number of early cultures as a practical way for dealing with lengths, areas, and volumes. Military science is the study of military processes, institutions, behavior, along with the study of warfare, and the theory and application of organized coercive force. It is mainly focused on theory, method, and practice of producing military capability in a manner consistent with national defense policy. A putto is a figure in a work of art depicted as a chubby male child, usually naked and sometimes winged. Putti are secular and represent a non-religious passion. Etching by Bernard Picart, 1729.
