A serious fire occurred in this building belonging to the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich, SE London, during refurbishment of the roof. Escape ladders and a turntable ladder gave the firefighters access to the upper levels in their efforts to contain the blaze. The Academy was sold by public tender in 2006. The Woolwich buildings have since been converted and extended into 334 houses and apartments.
