Helena Hill Weed (1875-1958), US suffragette and geologist, in a Washington DC jail, July 1917. She had been arrested picketing the White House on the 4th July and served three days in prison. The 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, which granted women the right to vote, was ratified in August 1920 after nearly a century of protest.
