Author Confers With Attorney on Spy Charges - Agnes Smedley, American author, confers with her attorney, O. John Rogge, here today, after the U.S. Army released a report of Russian spy activities in Japan during the war. The report, a copy of which Rogge is reading, links Miss Smedley to the ring as its Shanghai operative, and says she "is a spy and agent of the Soviet government." The Army report says the Japanese smashed the ring almost by accident just before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. February 10, 1949. (Photo by AP Wirephoto).
