BUTTERFLY VASE. PORCELAIN FAMILLE ROSE.
China. Qing Dynasty; Guangxu period (1875-1908).

Porcelain; painted in the colours of the famille rose with gold. Shoulder bottle (yu tang chun ping) with high; trumpet-shaped neck over spherical body. On the body butterflies in various colours and positions. On the shoulder between two golden rings a lotus border with the character for a long life (shou); which is enhanced by the motif of the 100 butterflies. Below the rim a ruyi border; above the base a similar border of stylised lotus leaves. Height 38.5cm; ?22cm. In the bottom a six character Guangxu mark in iron red. Condition A.
