RARE CUP AND SCAUER SHOWING THE 'WONDER OF ZAANDAM'.

China. Export porcelain. Qing dynasty. Qianlong period (1735-1796). Export porcelain; painted in the Netherlands with enamel. The depiction of the 'Cruelty of a Bull'; based on Dutch prints; shows an angry bull trampling on the man lying on the ground and his woman whirled through the air; giving premature birth to a baby. All this happened on August 29; 1647; as noted on the reverse; in a place where the boys usually fly kites; as is also shown. Like a miracle is the only survivor the baby. Cup height 4.6cm; ?6.5m; saucer ?11cm. Underneath each with the date of the incident in black stain: 29 Augustus 1647. Condition A/B. Lip with minute chips; somewhat rubbed.Art trade; Van Ham.
