SAN GAETANO Thiene (October 1480 - 7 August 1547); Italian presbyter; founder of the Order of the regular Theatine clerics. Depicted according to tradition in the act of receiving the Baby Jesus from the arms of the Madonna; in the interpretation of an episode told by him in a letter to the Augustinian religious Laura Mignani: during the Christmas period of 1517; at the altar of the Crib in the basilica Roman of Santa Maria Maggiore; was kidnapped in ecstasy and witnessed the miraculous birth of the Virgin. Canonized on 12 April 1671 by Pope Clement X; it is commemorated on 7 August; the day of his death (Dies Natalis; birth to heaven).
